The Majority of the people don't understand what a professional detailer does, with many of them associating us with car washers/cleaners (Which is only about 25% of a proper detailing process) and worst of all some amateur detailers has already given professional detailers a bad name due to customer’s bad experiences with amateur detailers. A $120 'cut n buff' from Gumtree or local Facebook Online Sales would be a good example of this.
Here are the top 5 reasons to keep in mind why you need a professional detailer:
Here are the top 5 reasons to keep in mind why you need a professional detailer:
Detailers knows about your car's paintwork more than you do
To you, you might think your cars paintwork is in good condition. In some cases that might be true. More often than not, it is not. We are on another level compared to even your average perfectionist. Every single defects and imperfections on your paint catches our eye. Almost 95% of the cars on the road today have flaws and defects in their paintwork - even new cars (unfortunately). Cars are exposed to a harmful environment day to day including environmental factors and improper wash techniques by local car washes and dealerships. A professional detailer has the ability remove all the imperfects and defects, correct your paintwork to a perfect, showroom condition using the correct selection of products for your application (more on this later).
Detailers gives you excellent advice on how to maintain your car in top condition all the time
A detailer has seen all kinds of people’s methods on how they maintain and wash their cars. Ranging from a washing sponge and bucket to using a broom with dirty water, causing all sorts of imperfections and defects on the paintwork. We know what causes paint defects and we know how to prevent them, feel free to ask questions and we are more happy to give you advice.
Here's a very good bad example of how not to wash your car (Ouch):
Detailers have a huge range of products and equipments that works the best for your car
One particular product will not work for all different kinds of paint. A car's paint is just like you and me; we are different. An example would be that Honda and Subaru paint is “soft” and Mercedes Benz paintwork is as hard as diamond. Even with the same manufacturer, the paint hardness often varies slightly too! A professional detailer has 1001 of products in their arsenal to cater to different kinds of paintwork and your old mate Roy the detailer from Gumtree will have Meguiar's Ultimate Compound from Supercheap Auto, telling you he can polish your paintwork to a showroom shine for just $120.
Don't get us wrong, Meguiar's Ultimate Compound is an excellent product, and we have it in our arsenal too, but one product is not enough for the thousands of different types of cars and their varying condition paintwork.
Here at Grand Sport Detailing, we are continuously researching, developing and learning new techniques, and keeping up with the paint technology as it evolves (Such as CeremiClear from BMW, Nissan's Self healing clear coat etc). We have a huge range of products to cater for each individual car and as such our professional service is tailored to you and your cars specific needs.
A good detailer can transform your 3-year-old car looking like a 10-year-old car to brand new, showroom shine or even better. Detailers can even correct imperfections from factory!
Now many people will think that's rubbish, but it is true. It's called Paint Correction. A long haul process that could take up to days, or even weeks to complete. It could transform your car from a $5000 car to a million dollar showroom car (We are exaggerating of course, but you get the idea)
before and after
Imperfections from factory brand new paint? You must be wondering.
Not all car paintwork from factory or resprayed finishes well. You will notice the paint isn't like a mirror but it's very distorted. It's called orange peel, because it does look like orange peel.

Orange peel can be fixed and corrected with wet-sanding.
It is a very high level of paint correction that I would not recommend anyone to try it themselves because without the right skill and technique, you'll find your car in the spraying booth very soon!

Detailers finish down your paint better than a spray painter
There's a saying - Panel beaters are mechanic's heroes. But panel beaters need heroes too!
Paint that is freshly out from the spraying booth usually needs to be finish down with a wet-sanding, de-nib and polishing after when the paint has been baked or finished curing. Spray painting and detailing is two completely different roles. A professional detailer specialises in this area and it makes sense to bring your freshly painted car to a professional detailer to do the final touches.
